- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp of baking powder
- 1 tsp of salt
- 1/2 tsp of black pepper
- 1 bottle of beer
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 4 large russet potatoes
- Salt and vinegar for serving
Instructions:
1. Prepare the fish:
- Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels.
- Cut the fillets into smaller pieces, if desired.
- In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add beer slowly to the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.
- Dredge the fish in the remaining flour, then dip into the batter.
2. Cook the fish:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375 degrees F.
- Fry the fish in batches for about 4-5 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
- Place cooked fish on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
3. Prepare the chips:
- Peel and cut the potatoes into thick strips.
- Rinse the potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch.
- Fry the potatoes in the same oil used for the fish until golden and crispy.
- Season the chips with salt.
4. Serve:
- Plate the fish and chips together.
- Serve with malt vinegar, ketchup, or tartar sauce.
- Enjoy hot and fresh!
