Fish and Chips Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs of cod fillets
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of black pepper
  • 1 bottle of beer
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • Salt and vinegar for serving

Instructions:

1. Prepare the fish:

  1. Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels.
  2. Cut the fillets into smaller pieces, if desired.
  3. In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add beer slowly to the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.
  5. Dredge the fish in the remaining flour, then dip into the batter.

2. Cook the fish:

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375 degrees F.
  2. Fry the fish in batches for about 4-5 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Place cooked fish on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

3. Prepare the chips:

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into thick strips.
  2. Rinse the potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch.
  3. Fry the potatoes in the same oil used for the fish until golden and crispy.
  4. Season the chips with salt.

4. Serve:

  1. Plate the fish and chips together.
  2. Serve with malt vinegar, ketchup, or tartar sauce.
  3. Enjoy hot and fresh!
