Ingredients:

  • 8 cups of beef broth
  • 1 lb of beef brisket, sliced thinly
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2-inch piece of ginger, sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 8 oz rice noodles
  • Bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime wedges, and jalapenos for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef Broth: In a large pot, combine the beef broth, onion, garlic, ginger, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, fish sauce, and sugar. Bring to a boil and then simmer for about 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef: While the broth is simmering, cook the sliced beef brisket in a separate pot until browned. Add the cooked beef to the broth.
  3. Cook the Noodles: Cook the rice noodles according to package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  4. Assemble the Pho: Divide the cooked noodles among serving bowls. Ladle the hot beef broth and beef slices over the noodles.
  5. Garnish: Serve the Pho with bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime wedges, and sliced jalapenos on the side for garnish.
