Main Dish: Fish and Chips

Fish:

  1. 1 lb white fish fillets, such as cod or haddock
  2. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  3. 1 tsp baking powder
  4. 1/2 tsp salt
  5. 1/2 cup beer
  6. 1 egg

Chips:

  1. 4 large russet potatoes, cut into thick strips
  2. 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  3. Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the beer and egg to the flour mixture and stir until well combined. If the batter is too thick, add a little more beer until desired consistency is reached.
  4. Dip the fish fillets into the batter, letting any excess drip off, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. In a separate bowl, toss the potato strips with vegetable oil and salt until well coated. Spread them out on the baking sheet next to the fish.
  6. Bake the fish and chips for 20-25 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the chips are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve hot with tartar sauce, malt vinegar, or your favorite dipping sauce.
