Main Dish: Fish and Chips
Fish:
- 1 lb white fish fillets, such as cod or haddock
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup beer
- 1 egg
Chips:
- 4 large russet potatoes, cut into thick strips
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the beer and egg to the flour mixture and stir until well combined. If the batter is too thick, add a little more beer until desired consistency is reached.
- Dip the fish fillets into the batter, letting any excess drip off, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a separate bowl, toss the potato strips with vegetable oil and salt until well coated. Spread them out on the baking sheet next to the fish.
- Bake the fish and chips for 20-25 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the chips are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve hot with tartar sauce, malt vinegar, or your favorite dipping sauce.
